Thing 9

I use "Word" for my assignments and am happy with it. If I have to take notes and do not have access to a computer, I use a pencil and paper. :) Google docs would be good for students working in study groups. Everyone would have access to the group project and could update it and make changes as needed.

Thing 9

I took a look at Google Docs. Seems pretty simple & straightforward. Very similar to OpenOffice. Since it's accessible from any computer, and you don't need to download any software, you can easily share documents online with anyone who has a (free) google account.

Thing 8

I navigated my way through the Diigo site. It was easy enough. I will think about using this feature in the future. Right now I do not have time. The general public can use social bookmarking to share information with friends who have the same interests.

Thing 8

I was able to quickly set up my Diigo account & bookmark sites. It was so easy! Tagging makes it easy to locate an item using keywords, which I would find very handy. People could use this tool for sharing sites with others they know that have like interests.

Thing 8

I wasn't aware that bookmarks stayed with your computer, rather than your account. This could be useful when travelling, etc.

Thing 8!

Social bookmarking is a good idea just for the convenience of being able to access your bookmarks from any computer. I also like just browsing to see interesting news articles that people have recommended (used to visit Digg daily, but it just became too much of a time waster).

In theory, I like the idea. The reality, however, is that I'm too lazy and I hate tagging. It'd be nice if the social bookmarking sites gave you suggested tags (maybe they do, but I'm still too lazy!)

Edit: Posted this before I got my Diigo confirmation. They do have suggested tags on Diigo. I might start using this after all. I really like that you can post notes to and highlight text on the bookmarked sites as well.

Thing 7

I made this new greeting using Image Chef. I hope everyone here at the library has a very Merry Christmas.

Thing 6

The three mashups I explored on App Garden were Photo Pal, Photo Shake, and Barbershop. The Photo Pal application is used for iPad. It permits editing and improves photos in an easy way. With Photo Shake, a person can combine one or more photos to make a new image. Photo Shake allows a person to share photos with family and friends on social networking sites. With the Barbershop application, a person can see what they would look like if their appearance was altered for whatever reason. I guess people use this app when they doctor their photo for criminal purposes or if they are trying to get a date online. :)

I would not use these tools in my professional or personal life.

I personally do not like to share photos online.

Thing 7

I tried Image Chef & Comic Strip Generator. Very easy & fun to use. Was unable to access Wordle. I also tried Textspace.net and a few other generators. Would have been more successfull if I'd had a little more time.

Thing 7!

Ooooh, I really like Wordle! I can see myself hanging this up as art.

Challenge Activity

Thing 6!

- Flickriver shows a ton of interesting flickr photos all on one page. It's an easy way to view photos without having to click on any links to access additional images. Time saver!
- MyPicsMap shows you geographically where pictures were taken so you can view the world all on one screen. Cultural!
- Flickr Screensaver turns flickr photos into a screensaver. I don't know how I'd use this. Screensavers are unnecessary. :P

Regarding sharing photos online, as long as what's in the photos is not illegal and/or compromising to your professional career and/or makes life difficult if it got into the wrong hands, go for it!

I elfed myself. Yeehaw!
