Thing 9
I use "Word" for my assignments and am happy with it. If I have to take notes and do not have access to a computer, I use a pencil and paper. :) Google docs would be good for students working in study groups. Everyone would have access to the group project and could update it and make changes as needed.

Thing 9
I took a look at Google Docs. Seems pretty simple & straightforward. Very similar to OpenOffice. Since it's accessible from any computer, and you don't need to download any software, you can easily share documents online with anyone who has a (free) google account.

Thing 8
I navigated my way through the Diigo site. It was easy enough. I will think about using this feature in the future. Right now I do not have time. The general public can use social bookmarking to share information with friends who have the same interests.

Thing 8
I was able to quickly set up my Diigo account & bookmark sites. It was so easy! Tagging makes it easy to locate an item using keywords, which I would find very handy. People could use this tool for sharing sites with others they know that have like interests.
Thing 8
I wasn't aware that bookmarks stayed with your computer, rather than your account. This could be useful when travelling, etc.

Thing 8!
Social bookmarking is a good idea just for the convenience of being able to access your bookmarks from any computer. I also like just browsing to see interesting news articles that people have recommended (used to visit Digg daily, but it just became too much of a time waster).
In theory, I like the idea. The reality, however, is that I'm too lazy and I hate tagging. It'd be nice if the social bookmarking sites gave you suggested tags (maybe they do, but I'm still too lazy!)
Edit: Posted this before I got my Diigo confirmation. They do have suggested tags on Diigo. I might start using this after all. I really like that you can post notes to and highlight text on the bookmarked sites as well.

Thing 6
The three mashups I explored on App Garden were Photo Pal, Photo Shake, and Barbershop. The Photo Pal application is used for iPad. It permits editing and improves photos in an easy way. With Photo Shake, a person can combine one or more photos to make a new image. Photo Shake allows a person to share photos with family and friends on social networking sites. With the Barbershop application, a person can see what they would look like if their appearance was altered for whatever reason. I guess people use this app when they doctor their photo for criminal purposes or if they are trying to get a date online. :)
I would not use these tools in my professional or personal life.
I personally do not like to share photos online.

Thing 7
I tried Image Chef & Comic Strip Generator. Very easy & fun to use. Was unable to access Wordle. I also tried Textspace.net and a few other generators. Would have been more successfull if I'd had a little more time.
Thing 7!
Ooooh, I really like Wordle! I can see myself hanging this up as art.

Thing 6!
- Flickriver shows a ton of interesting flickr photos all on one page. It's an easy way to view photos without having to click on any links to access additional images. Time saver!
- MyPicsMap shows you geographically where pictures were taken so you can view the world all on one screen. Cultural!
- Flickr Screensaver turns flickr photos into a screensaver. I don't know how I'd use this. Screensavers are unnecessary. :P
Regarding sharing photos online, as long as what's in the photos is not illegal and/or compromising to your professional career and/or makes life difficult if it got into the wrong hands, go for it!
I elfed myself. Yeehaw!

Mashups (apps)
The 1st of the three mashups I looked at was Flickr Screensaver, an app that allows you to display a slideshow of images from Flickr. I also looked at CardKarma & Barbershop (an amusing app for iPhone/iPod that allows you to try new hairstyles on your photos). I can't see using any of them for my professional life, but they could come in handy for personal use. As far as sharing photos online - I would be very selective about what I would post & for whom.

Barbershop was cool if you think you might want a new look.
GeoPanda is a cheap way of traveling.
Kaleidoscope-- I always liked these as a kid.
Don't see any practical work applications. Could have fun playing around with them at home.

The puppy is cute! Don't you think so? Anyway, it seems like an awful lot of work for what you get, though. Maybe someday the process will be simplified, when technology gets better.

Thing 5

My Flickr account
I made a Flickr account. It was fairly easy. I added one picture to my account. It is of my former student, Riley Cooper, who is now playing professional football for my favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Thing 5
Handy option to save & share photos, but I found it a bit challenge to figure out. Once I have done it a few times, I'm sure it will come much easier. Tried Photobucket unsuccessfully. Switched to Flickr - much easier!

Thing 3 & 4
I chose Google Reader. I like to have automatic updates sent to me so I can continue to read about my favorite topics without having to enter the web address in the browser. This tool will be useful to me at my job and my personal life since it is a timesaver. An RSS feed might be useful in the library if the library employee is receiving feeds from other libraries. He or she can keep abreast of what type of programs those libraries are offering.
Things 3 & 4
I used Google Reader. Having everything on one page is easier than having to hunt them all down each time. This would be useful for sites that are used often, saving time and aggravation at work as well as at home.

Thing 4: RSS
I chose Google Reader because it was the most convenient one. RSS is cool because it suggests similar blogs to the ones that I've subscribed to. Reader combines all the blogs that I read into one place so I don't have to waste time entering in each blog address. I can definitely see RSS being used by staff to keep abreast of current trends and library happenings.
RSS
I chose Google Reader. I like the automatic updates of RSS. It will be useful to know about this tool and how to access to information - it saves time & lists all the websites you've subscribed to. In the library it will be useful for keeping abreast of the latest information.
Web 2.0
Everything grows and changes including the web. The way we learn and socialize has become globally intertwined.
What Library 2.0 means to us...
Library 2.0 has changed the way we do business. It's not just about books anymore. While many patrons still enjoy traditional library materials, libraries must find ways to stay relevant. We are continually motivated to find innovative ways to not only keep our current patrons coming back, but bring in new patrons. Libraries must be willing to "grow" to keep up with the ever-changing world.

What used to be limited to our own personal environment now reaches across the world via social networks, video-sharing sites, blogs, and interacting sites that are based on user participation.
